About KBLX

Few radio stations in the United States have survived the many musical trends which have come and gone over the years.  The industry watches as radio stations, call letters and formats change daily.  KBLX, on the other hand, has endured as an industry leader and music innovator since 1979.

From the start, KBLX envisioned a format offering adult listeners a unique music experience not available here or anywhere else in the country.  In contrast to the Top 40 and Album Rock formats, we delivered a sound encompassing a wide range of music from Pop, R&B, Jazz Instrumentals and Soundtrack recordings.  Carefully selected, this mix became “Soft and Warm The Quiet Storm”.

The stations popularity soared with more Bay Area adults tuning in.  They became more familiar with our music diversity and with our cuts from new artists like Anita Baker, Kenny G, Luther Vandross, Sade, Whitney Houston, Will Downing, Toni Braxton and others.  We were the first to play their music, and today, these artists are the music superstars of the ’80s and the ’90s.

As the station prospered, radio stations across the country started to check us out.  They were impressed with our station’s success in reaching the adult demographics.  Soon, more Quiet Storm stations appeared and derivative formats, like Adult Alternative and New Adult Contemporary, emerged as viable and successful formats.

Today, the station continues to break new ground in its music and its mass appeal.  Both the radio and record industry have acknowledged and supported the station as a leader in contemporary music.  As for the future, KBLX maintains its commitment to achieving music excellence.
