With movie theaters and churches not being able to operate as normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oakland Coliseum parking lot could open up to drive-in style movies, religious services and community events.
According to Oaklandside, city officials along with the Coliseum Authority are in talks and have plans of making the drive-in at the Coliseum parking lot become a reality.
Nearby in Pleasanton, the Alameda County Fairgrounds have recently began hosting drive-in style movies and concerts.
Those longtime residents will recall that drive-in movies were once a familiar sight in the area around the Coliseum in East Oakland. Just down the street is the former Coliseum Drive-In, which is currently used as the West Wind Coliseum Swap Meet.
