Who would’ve guessed that a simple trip to the orthopedic’s office could lead to a little virality? Not Sterling James, and definitely not Dr. Omar — or as KBLX social media users are calling him — “OrthoBae.”[embed]https://www.facebook.com/KBLX1029/videos/390486801626256/[/embed]
As you can tell, the video is the product of Sterling’s medical journey after an incident at a friend’s CD release party:
“Wish there was brilliant story to tell here but honestly, I just missed a step […] cranked the heck out of my right foot.”
After some reevaluations of the initial diagnosis (from sprain to a full-on fracture in her heel), to a few weeks of cast life, it was time for Sterling to move on to exclusively the orthopedic boot…
Cue OrthoBae Omar.
“The boss (Elroy Smith) is always telling us to share our real world experiences…so I figured what a great opportunity. I had planned to roll video with permission from whomever my tech was to be, it just so happened that it was Omar. I taped the cast removal, I asked a couple of basic questions, [he] was reserved yet responsive and very kind and professional. I posted the video and BOOM!!!”
In less than a week, the video has racked in over 2.5 millions views.
“It’s so wild what the masses will connect with. Some were interested in the procedure, either relating to having it done themselves in the past or looking forward to their own removal soon. Some were interested in my accident and my recovery. Some liked his shoes but MOST were very attracted to the handsome, young Ortho Tech!!”
The video and adoring fan appreciation also caught the eye of OrthoBae’s wife, who’s been sharing the love back to commentators:
“[It’s all] in fun and flirtation[…] she was polite yet firm in commanding respect for their commitment and when we chatted off line she said that she and her family were thoroughly enjoying the engagement and that he deserves the attention for all of his hard work.”
As for Sterling, she has a couple more weeks in the boot and she’s off the physical therapy. And if there will be an OrthoBae part 2 to the saga…
“I hope that Omar will be in [the] clinic on that day so that I can thank him for the support. But if he’s not present, that’s OK, the Doc is hella fine too.”
